I'm just curious...what words/syllables do you guys stutter on. I don't know any other stutters except my dad and i don't talk to him bout it. I stutter on D's alot and sometimes W's. Like "did" or "do". The hardest is when the word is in the begining of the sentence. If its in the middle its alot easier. O! Also M's get me. I remember this is about one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. This is maybe one of the biggest things about my stutter pissed me off. The first time i really really really felt it. It was in history last year. The teacher asked a question and i knew it. The answer was magellan's crew. I raised my hand. she goes "Lance" i knowing the answer answer it. I go mmmmamammamamamamamamamammmmmmagellan's crew. And everyone's just like staring at me. I felt so bad. And then someone's like "yea that's what i was gonna say" Since then I've tried to be more careful. But i still don't let stuttering events bring me down. I'm sure i'm the only one who remembers that event... Still I try to work to my ability and never let anything get in my way. I'm part of three minorities. I stutter, i'm jewish, and i'm left handed(:p). So life is pretty hard. But i get around it. I excel in school. Wow this is a long message...any thoughts?
I'm left handed too haha ;) i studder alot on my M's and D's also. I also have had inclass experiences like you did. It has gotten to the point where I ask my teachers if i can skip their class if i have to stand up and do a presentation. I guess it does bug me that i stutter, but i have gotten used to it, but other people dont understand whats going on inside us. But i dont know thats my feed back

I wonder if there is any connection between lefties and stutterers. I saw these websites that had famous lefites and famous stutterers. Did you know Bruce Willis and Issac Newton were both stutterers and both lefthanded? lol.

lets see, earlier in my life, i never saw a pattern on which words i stuttered on so i was oblivious to any masking techniques.
in my teens i realized i stuttered mostly on vowels (a,e,i,o,u) and any beginning letter with that similar type of strong sound (the "AH" sound or the "UH" or the "OH"). to this day i hate calling places and asking to make "appointments" because that is a tough word.
when i realized this, what i trained myself to do is find non voweled synonyms for the words that did begin with vowels so then i gave the illusion like i was fluent...then i had to read aloud so i couldn't do that, so my "mask was off", so to speak and of course the stuttering came back. people thought i had a reading problem since i spoke "fluently" and was a closet stutterer. when i realized this, i began using delays and rythymic speaking where i would use brief pauses just before the "tough words" so as to ready my body and mind and somehow i wouldn't block on the word. still came off as me having a reading problem but at least i didn't stutter right?? :D .
i also found that i stuttered on some long words not beginning with vowels, words like transmission, certificate (thats a bad one for me). they would sound like trans-mi-mi-mis-miss-misss-mission and cert-if-if-if-ifi-ificate. made me look stupid i know i'm intelligent. its very frustrating .
then in my early 20's up to today (mid 20's), i realized that i stuttered, still on the vowels and on some long words with multiple syllables and multiple segments, but now, i stuttered on the subject or main idea of the sentences, like "where is my W-2?" would sound like "where is my doub-doub-doub-W-2?" whereas i would never stutter on any word beginning with W otherwise.
now to combat all of these things i still do the word substitution as always but i also try things like tapping my toes in my shoes (lame i know but whatever gets you through right?), or i try walking in rythym while i'm saying the word...say, my front foot lands and the landing of the heel "forces" the word out. no one can tell i'm doing this of course. at the end of the days where i'm supposed to socialize more for school or whatever where i have no choice, i tend to be really tired as you might imagine. all my techniques take sooo much energy that i'm just exhausted. i would need to spend some "alone time" so i can refuel. on some days, unfortunately, i tend just to not talk altogether just to not have to go through all this but i'm young, with a whole life ahead, and can't do that forever. my stamina is improving though...
I am left handed. I stutter on things that... for example people... ppp p p people, or things with K, I just cant spit it out sometimes.
If I can choose my words I do quite well.
If there is only ONE possible answer I can have a lot of trouble.
For example:
> What is your name?
> What is your address?
> What is your phone number?
> Please read out the letters on this bloody eye-test card :)
You see?
Reality sometimes catches up with us and all our tricks don't work.
We need to gradually phase out the use of tricks, and learn HOW to talk all over again.

when i have to read in class, i sometimes have to 'lead in' to a sentence.
for instance
"When john was little he liked to go to the shops."
i see it, and i know i will block on 'when'. if it was in the middle of the sentance then its fine i wouldnt block. but it isnt, so u have to 'lead in'. so i would say
"You see, when john was litt.........."
there it is, the lead in :) also with names, like William, just say He or something and it should be fine

Yea i sometimes do that.
I stutter at the beginning and with K's, D's, V's, G's, P's but mostly at C's, like 'competition'. 'Police' (In dutch it's 'politie' because I live in the Netherlands but in English it's even hard) is always hard to say for me. First I block on that word, then I'll go like p-p-p-politie.
When I'm on the phone, and I have to say hello, I always get nervous. It's the first thing you always have to say and when I speak it's H-h-h-hello.

I am 16, I've stuttered since I could talk.I seem to stutter with everything I say. I can't even say my own name, sometimes. I have a hard time in school. I made my first friend in grade nine when I stopped stuttering. Then before this school year(grade 11) started it came back. My friends don't seem to mind. My best friend My Music teacher Kirk White Is always there for me. He gives me the confidence to get through the day. Feel free to visit my site anytime at www.stutteringsupport.piczo.com.

I block at the start of sentances mostly and also find it worse when i am asked a direct question dont know why, i think its because i tend to avoid confrontation. Who knows?

I can stutter on everything, even just saying numbers and letters. Names are always really hard to say, i think that cos you are trying to attact someones attention.

don't worry about it. i went through the whole of college including a master's and made it out ok. you'll be ok..
So, I mostly struggle on that, but I struggled today on a R.. I was talking with my friends about this guy, Roger, and I was like R..rrr..*takes a deep breath* rrrroger..
That's strange, because I almost never struggled with a R (at the beginning of a word)..I guess I was nervous or something, and I also noticed I was talking way to fast today and not using my breathing techniques as I should've done.
But I have a question: I never struggle when I have to count, like, you know, obviously: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... But when I have to say that number when I'm not counting, I struggle sometimes. Am I the only one who has this or does anyone has that too?

I have that problem too. Except that I always stutter on stay the number but not when I count. I hope you can control it, or slowly get through it. :)

I can stutter on nearly all letters, but the worst are b,p, t, and, worst of the worst "s", on which I can stay stucked very very long.
same here, most letters / words, but the worst are 'd','p' 's' 't' 'w'

Usually "b", "m", "n", "p", and "t". Some more the others . . . but once in a while all of them get equally difficult.

Good Days none.
Bay Days all of them.
inbetween, "m", like McDonalds, mom or my mother. "t" Tony. "u" Eugene. "E" Edwin. Just a few examples.
