Hey all!
I'm Sarah, Chinese from Malaysia. It's a tropical country south of Thailand, north of Singapore (go look it up on the map!).
So I guess this is my cue to tell my story, huh. Well, i started stuttering when I was 10. I think it was triggered by a high fever because I get sick alot.
My life sorta went downhill from there. I started to dread school because my teachers would call on me to read aloud in class and stuff. I was also a prefect and was expected to give announcements on the school microphone some mornings. Oh and there was once I was chosen for a debate competition based on my academic results (the teacher who chose me didn't know I stuttered). After a pretty awkward debate, I WASN'T chosen as the best speaker :( surprise surprise Haha ;)
My primary school life was dreadful. My self-confidence plummeted. My friends were pretty understanding but there were some who were happy about having something to tease me about. Even my sister and dad made fun of me, so what the hell right. I learned to cope in secondary school. My friends were used to me stuttering so it was better I guess.
Anyways, I'm 19 now and am in college. I can speak pretty fluently now. I even went through a phone interview with a university not too long ago! I'd like to believe God healed me, because I used to pray fervently to God so that He'd take my pain away.
And... I'd love to be a writer one day! (How's my language?). My parents wanted me to study Law but I can't imagine me stuttering my way through moot court! Am not really interested in Law anyway. So I'm going to study Economics, love the subject =)
I don't like to think of it as a 'disability'. Because it hasn't 'disabled' me from doing anything I've ever wanted to do in my life. I don't see why it should prevent anybody else from achieving the maximum that they can achieve.
God bless! Look forward to contributing more to this forum!
Lotsa Love,
Sarah
