hey,
my name's sloth and i've had a stutter my whole life. It started to decrease when i entered the teen years, but it still lives on and i have recently purchased a speacheasy device. Other then having the device, i am also a severe covert stutterer. I am extremely good at hiding it, which has i guess caused a lot of stress over the years and have contributed to some stress and panic related disorders. I just decided to join one of these forums just to see some of the things other people have to say about their impediments. I have never really met anyone else with one so i guess i'll get a chance to here. Look forward to chatting with some of you.

Interesting!

I also hide my stuttering, most of the time quite well.
I also find that I have on some occasions suffered from stress and panic attacks, never thought it was related though.

Do you think that people that stutter have very sensitive personalities, maybe come across very nervous?

My GP once told me that I was the most stressed out patient he had ever seen...

I think my struggle to hide my stammer made me look like a nervous wreck.

I wouldn't say that i come across as nervous to people i meet or am not that familiar with. But i know that some of my close family members can really tell when i'm having a hard time.

When I took a stuttering course at the NFS the person told me I was a closet stutterer. I don't stutter whenI'm alone or when I read aloud. There are times in which I am fluent and times that I cannot say word one. I too am good at hiding it but i'm not sure that is a good thing to do .I mean are we fooling anyone. Sometimes I feel that if I tell people up front abouy my stutter it will be a lot les stressful.

Does anyone feel the same way???

I actually feel it's more stressful at times when i tell people up front because then i always think that they won't actually listen to me they'll just be waiting for me to stutter. That's what a lot have people done to me so it's just something i kind of assume now.
