What car do you drive?
I drive an Opel Manta, its the european version of a Vauxhall Mk 1 Cavalier Coupe.
1989 original! schveeeet!

I drive a '97 mazda protege
I doubt a type of car you drive would affect your stuttering.....on second thought.....maybe it could help with stuttering....I mean what if I drove a ferrari or lamborghini (probably won't happen, atleast not anytime soon)....it would definetely raise my confidence and self esteem....not to mention the car itself would be a huge chick magnet :D....just let it do all the work for you

I drive an 1997 F-150 4x4. The wife drives a 2001 Ford Windstar. I have an 1978 Lincoln hoping to restore, but it is driveable.
Work truck, 2005 chev 2500HD 4x4.

I drive a 99 Honda Accord. I've had expensive cars in the past (not a Ferrari , German cars) and there was absolutely no effect on my stuttering. Girls did try to approach me, I'd just smile and pretend I was too cool to have to talk.

You guys are right, this has nothing to do with stuttering. It is under general chat and it look's like a good topic, like the movies one. my girls in their stroller were the girl magnet. Women just can't resist babies.

You know this has made me think. Do stutters intentionally shy away from flashy cars? So that people don't talk to them about it. I don't mean like Ferrrari's and such cause that's dependant on wealth. But like do stutters avoid car modifications like spoilers and body kits to avoid getting asked about it? If someone started asking me about my car in public I'd get freaked out.

No. At least not the ones I know.

A stutter probably would love to have
a hot rod flashy car to boost confidence
with women to compensate for stuttering..
I say go for it!!
Imagine a nasty stutterer driving
KITT from Knight Rider with the leather
jacket, and black attire like the Hoff
wore--!! Have that stutterer replace
the Hoff's character as Michael..
A stutterer's confidence in that situation
alone would make any girl melt!!
Would if David Hasselhoff (don't hassel the hoff!)
stuttered extremely bad on the show- but still
drove KITT around wearing his knight rider
attire--would he still get mega chicks--heck
yeah!!!
And KITT is the hottest sexiest car on earth!!
And the HOFF knows it!!

boys and their toys. thats what my girlfriend says. i cannot drive and i am a guy. i dont know if its because i am so intolerant of traffic or i just dont have the nerves. and oh driving in africa is not a joke. there are no traffic rules and the police are all corrupt and theyd probably sting me for a fortune, so i dont drive. but my dream car when i can afford it and its insurance would be a range rover or a lexus jeep. i'm a big guy and i get cramped in the good doctors RAV4!
id much prefer a yacht!

With flashy sport cars, you will be drawing attention to yourself for sure. I would do it, but not with a flashy import, pure detroit muscle all the way. I had big block vehicles before and the feel and sound of a big block.

I didn't know you guys had fields in PEI. hehehehehe I live out in the prairies, you can still see your dog, a week after he leaves.
So the cougar has the 5.0L V8, cool. Don't recall if it came with dual exhaust, but it would be a cool car to fix up and make it into a screamer.
I got a heavy foot, but not a lead on. When I head to Calgary, on The QE II, I would do 120 km/h easily and people would still be passing, even had a RC's passed me on a couple occasions.

I have been to PEI a few years back. The car must be in real good shape then and the sound of that V8 with dual exhaust. Love those bubble head cats in the back window. You drove fast in a field with that car. I guess you can see why you only done it once. hehehehe How fast did you get the car up to?

The gas price here in Canada is $1.14/litre. I currently have a truck with a 4.6L V8. I still have a car with an 7.5L V8 and I can go through rear tires easily. The smallest is a 2.0L four banger.

That monty is a cool car, 305 cid V8 with an 4 barrell carb. The monty SS with an corvet cam, and with dual exhaust is awosome looking car.
I really loved that car!! My parents were so mad that I bought it, 17 year old nut with a muscle car!!
When I was younger I had a big problem with things like, limits, authority... With my sense of indesctructability I'm lucky to have survived that perod of my life.
WIth my jeep, we'd go up on the New York Thruway up in the mountains and just find trails and leave the road. When I was in school in Pennsylvania we'd do the same thing. Once broke an axil speeding through the forest in Harriman state park when I LANDED on a rock... a boulder really...
Oh what a pain in the arse that was... no road, cell phones hadn't been invented yet and we were in the middle of no hwere. It was a multi-mile hike back to the damn road and then another hike to the closest actual town.
There was a time in my life when i knew how to have fun. :D

I almost bought an monty an 86 ss. I would have switched the 305 to an 350.
Oh, I hear you real good on that off roading. An couple years ago, I was driving my 92 chev 4x4 and I got it stuck. Tried to use the winch, but it fryed the battery. Lucky the cell phone worked called an friend and he got another friend with an back hoe to pull me out. I tried to take an jeep cherokee across an river, but the river was too high. I had to be pulled back to shore.
I also like ATV's, pack some camping gear and you can go anywhere and you can be alone with nature. Or find that special fishing hole and it is very useful during hunting season.

I have been up to 155 km/h, in my pickup, couldn't go any faster, the govern wouldn't let me. That is what the police officer told me how fast I was going. That is about 90 mph. in my youth I buried the needle a few times.

I was done on the motorway doing 92 and I had slowed down, must have done over a 100 mph but nowadays as I am older and wiser I wont do over 85 even though the speed limit is 70..

105 MPH.
My radar detector went off, was able to slow down to 67 before the cop nailed me for doing 67 in a 55. I was glad to pay that $129 fine for 12 mph over speed limit than to get thrown in jail for reckless driving (anything over 20 mph over the speed limit).

One thing which has always perplexed me are the speed limits over the Pacific. You have all these big engined, powerful cars, and from what I understand quite low speed limits. What's that all about????
Anyway, the fastest I have been was having a drag in my BMW 325i straight six auto with a Ford 2.9 V6 manual. I was still pulling away from him at 138mph when I had to slow down for cars in front of me, and he was reading 146mph. I reckon that the way the car was pulling, I could have reached 145 on my speedo in another mile or so, but the empty road started to have cars on it, so I called it a day at that.
Other than that, I frequently top 100mph on my way home. In fact, when I was younger, the first thing my buddies and I would do when we first got a car would be to see what the top end was.
I've just been very lucky not to have been "officially" caught!

During the oil crisis in the 70's there was a federal law passed stating that the max speed limit allowed was 55 mph as a gas saving measure. Only recently have they started to raise the limits.
Regardless, 55 mph does indeed save a lot of gas and lives... something like 40,000 people die on America's roads every year.
I live in a very populated area where most speed limits are still 55 but traffic flows on these roads around 70-80 mph. I got my new car up to about 100 but only because i was on the NY thruway where I 'accidently' hit 95 while passing a car where everyone was doing 80-85 anyway. I figured I was up there anyway...
When I was younger I pinned every needle I saw but I think the fastest I ever got was around 125 in a Buick Riviera.
I once got my Jeep to hit 100... going down a VERY big hill.
I try not to speed now though... the insurance premiums are deadly.

Lion Heart is right, we had a couple of gas shortage and new regulations to increase gas mileage, those big blocks in the 60's and 70's and it was in the 70's the big blocks were detuned running with 2.76 axel ratio and trying to push around an 5000 lb car. The big blocks disappeared before the 80's began. Who sings that song, "I can't drive 55"?
Correct me if I am wrong Lion Heart, but I believe the Dodge Viper and the Corvertte with the 7.0L V8, you have to pay the gas guzzler tax. In Canada we have an higher speed limit, I hate to convert. 63 mph (100 km/h) and on the major roads, it is 70 mph (110 km/h). The tuners are growing in popularity, the detroit muscle fans are not going anywhere.
All in all our gas is still cheaper than across the Atlantic and diesel is not far behind.

I know about the fuel shortage of the '70's, but why still have the low speeds?
I hear Ari's point about low speed limits, but take a look at Germany and the autobahn, which I believe has very low accident figures.
Over here, I believe that people who drive way under the speed limit cause more accidents (by frustrated drivers) than drivers who drive over the speed limit.
The price of fuel over here is a crime that needs to be addressed. Fancy building a pipeline from your house to mine Gene?

I have not experienced the Autobahn in Germany. The closest we come, i think is the QEII, Edm to Cal, most people do at least 130 km/h.
What is the average speed limit in Scotland? We are one of the richest provinces in Canada with Oil and Gas and yet we are still paying $1.03/L.

The limit through built up areas is 30mph, then 40 in less built up areas. It then increase to 50mph on some open roads, 60mph on most single carriageway roads and some double, and then 70mph on other double carriageways and motorways.
This (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20070419/tbs-uk-gasoline-world-f6da091.html) article is interesting regarding the price of fuel around the world.....

Okay, 70 mph, is about 112 km/h, yeah that is about the speed limit for the double lanes, but most people average about 120 km/h, about 75 mph. I know I do, but a few people pass me like i'm standing still.
The US it pretty cheap at only 75 cents/litre, we are currently paying $1.03/litre. I remember one time paying only .20 cents/litre, how times have changed.
