Do you ever feel like that when you are talking to someone and you start stuttering and it feels that seconds pass like hours...

I hate these situations. i haven't been active in this forum for a few months, and my stutter actually worsened...do you guys think this support from this wonderful forum helps stutterers speak more fluently?

One more thought- some people really understand what it feels like to want to say something but not to be able to get it out...I have caught myself sooo many times trying to say something to a person, but stopping because I would know that I will stutter and emberass myself...how do you stay positive during these times that you feel that your stutter is ruing your damn life?!?!?!

thanks everyone,

ib

Confused, thanks for the post. Im 16 and also have a stutter which sucks. I go through that feeling everyday and it tears me to pieces emotionally but what i sometimes tell myself is it will be alright in the end. *praying*

Confused, it was my reaction to my stutter that caused me the trouble, not the stutter. Took me a while to tell the difference, but it gave me something I could control.

Yes, you can!

We've all been there, it's really miserable telling someone something and he/she is openly laughing at you. Bill

i think we all feel like stuttering is ruining our lives. if we aren't there already, we will be. i'm 26 and i just realized this about a few months ago.

just think about how long it took us to "figure out" our problem and realize it's impact...

we can't really expect people to feel what we feel.

we have to deal with them the best as possible.

i don't think many people would openly laugh at someone who they know has a problem.

just stay strong and think positive

Yes people will openly laugh at you. I was a severe stutterer until I purchased my speecheasy at age 62. there are a lot of cruel people out there. After 62 years of it I know what I'm talking about. I'm fairly fluent now, and have been for 6 years and am enjoying it. Bill

Not at all. The forum is nurturing and understanding while the world is not so much at times. You could think of it as a crib, where we come for comfort. The advice here isn't likely to make you fluent, but the best we can do is encourage each other and promote a humility that others may not show us elsewhere.
