Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I have been on here as my stammer has been really good of late until the past couple of months. It has got really bad and I am trying to think of reasons as to why. I am no more stressed than I have been in the past and I feel fairly good about myself. I guess what I am wondering is, do you think that the Winter makes your stutter worse?

With stuttering we can't rule anything out. I think weather and climate change might influence some stutters. In my case, I went to Cusco (mountain area in Peru) and I stuttered much more there. The city is 3,400 mts above sea level and I think that made me breathe harder and therefore stutter more. Maybe freezing temperatures causes that too.

I get slightly depressed in the winter due to lack of warmth and sunlight, and I sometimes notice my stutter is worse. I'm not sure if that's what causes it, but it's possible.

I find my stutter has its seasons. Right now during the winter its worse than normal. But during the warmer times I find it to be not so noticeable. So I think the climate has a lot to do with it.

Just listen to the beginning bit about the summer actually making this guy stutter more.

I live in a supra-equatorial country and before that I lived in an equatorial country. Here we have hot and dry, hot and wet. So the only change is precipitation. do I stutter more when its hot and humid and I'm very uncomfortable, yes. But I speak very fluently in the rain, it relaxes me and I always sleep best when its raining. As a child I grew up in an old british colonial (african) house in an anglican church and we had a tin roof, and I remember speaking very clearly over the sound of rain on the roof.

I used to work outdoors all year round, as well as climbing in summer and winter, and the only time the weather would affect my speech is when I was tense from trying to keep warm.

Otherwise, the temperature has no affect at all.

Now, shouting into high winds is another story......
