Just thought I'd let everyone know I've been on Propranolol for the last 2 weeks after reading that it may be helpful for stuttering (on here and beyond). I'm currently taking 20 mg/day (10 morning and 10 at night). So far I don't feel any difference, but since I don't feel any negative side effects either, I'm going to continue at least until the month is out.
I'll keep you posted.

I started taking Propranolol myself two weeks ago -- 10mg three times a day. So far, it has had no effect. (I'm cheating now by taking 40mg per day.) I have an appointment with my neurologist at the end of next week to see about adding Buspar, or something else he thinks would help me.
When I saw him two weeks ago, he told me that maybe nothing would help because I had a head injury close to the speech production area in my brain a few years ago. On the other hand, I went through the HCRI program a couple times over the past two years, and I walked out fluent both times. So, apparently there's nothing physically wrong with my speech mechanism.
Go figure!
I'll keep everyone up to date.

I wonder how important Buspar is as part of the Propranolol equation. For example, if I'm not noticing any difference with Propranolol alone, does adding Buspar really make all the difference?

I'll be seeing my neurologist next week and asking him to add Buspar to the equation. He didn't want to combine Buspar and Propranolol the first time out so he/we could see how Propranolol works by itself. I'll let you know what happens. So far, increasing my dosage of Propranolol from 30mg per day to 40mg per day hasn't made a difference.

Thanks, I look forward to what he says, but more importantly, if Buspar makes any difference for you.

Well for Propranolol I just went to my regular doctor and said I wanted to try it for stuttering. He wasn't convinced it'll do anything, but he wasn't against me trying it out.

I was on propranolol and buspar for 2 months. Nothing happened.

Kayleigh ...
I went to my neurologist because I had a head injury a few years ago, and am on some fairly heavy-duty anti-seizure medications. My neurologist is much more aware of any interactions between these medications and propranolol and buspar. So far propanolol not helped a bit, but I'm asking my neurologist for a buspar prescription today, and I'll try both together. Since my head injury was on the side of my brain where speaking functions are, these medications may not help, but I'll try any way. More later ...
