One creativity outlet I found that is not affected by stuttering is music. I am a bass player and have been at it for (on and off) 20 years. I have played in two bands: one in high school and one in college. I currently do not play in a band due to commitements such as: career, school, family, etc. I do, however, continue to home recording. I play anything rock & metal. I, by no means, am a virtuoso . . . I consider myself an apprentice with lots and lots to learn about bass.
Anyone else here expresses themselves through a music instrument?

No, I don't play an music instrument. I do dance to my cultural music and I enjoy drawing. I still get pretty shy dancing in front of couple thousands of people.

I play Trumpet and Clarinet and Sing Alto. I am graduating from my High School on June 22 and I am in Concert Band, Jazz Band,Clarinet ensemble and Choir. I have been playing clarinet for 4 years and Trumpet for 1 year. Music is my life, My music Instructor Kirk White(www.kirkwhite.piczo.com) is my best Friend and we share everything. Music makes all the bad things go away and its just me, and the music in that moment. I am going to be teaching a class over the summer for beginners and hope there are alot of them. I am going to be working at Musical venues and with bands. I also help out with Musicals (Footloose-this year) and I am a lighting technician! I love music and its my life, without it I think I would of given up on life along time ago! To read more, read my Bio on www.kaylamacleanspage.piczo.com or www.stutteringsupport.piczo.com

I have recorded 8 original songs. Everyone that I know loves those songs, but being in Albania, does not give a lot of possibilities to go forward in music.
Im going to tell you a story.
When I was very young, my granny explained my stuttering this way: My sweet boy! God is a very busy man. Sometimes even him makes mistakes. Looks like your words he has given by mistake to someone else and to you, he has given the beautyfull voice of a bird, that now is crying somewhere, because he cannot sing now. So my son, be happy for this gift, not sad. God takes something and surely gives something else.
I hope my english was good and you did undertand my story.

Elliot sir,
Drawing is so much fun. There is so much you can do. You can use lines, shading with no lines, or combine both. I am trying dots right now with an ball point pen. Got to use pretty thick paper. I have used Charcoal, it is harder because you tend to smear it around. I'm not an professional, just do it for my own enjoyment.

Please don't call me "sir" . . . I hear that all day at work :) Here we are all peers fighting the same battle!!!
My daughter has taken quite a liking to drawing and coloring (she's only 5 1/2), I hope she continues with her motivation. I like to sit with her to do some coloring but it's a bit embarrasing how she can do so much better than me!!!
I tried to sway her to music but she's not buying it. On the other hand, my boy (he's 4) seems to be more musically inclined. I thinkg Santa is going to bring him a drum set next christmas :p

No problem, just my sense of humor.
I know what you mean. My girls are starting to take up drawing, they want to be just like Daddy. I bought them the complete set, drums, fluts, guiter, and they seem to like the flut and guiter. The use the drum to stand on.
I have a friend, who plays music all the time. She is more into folk music. She writes and record's her own music and share it among her music friends. She has played a few Rollie Stones Songs for me and a few of her own songs. I understand how you guys feel, expression yourself in your music, feeling at peace in mind and body.

I play the guitar, at least I try to play the guitar. I have never had any lessons but I aim to take some this winter.
I love music and often go to see bands live. I like a broad range of music but specifically like alternative, experimental and post-rock bands.
Riverman.
I play the 6-string gee-tar and love rock and roll of most styles. I have both an electric and accoustic 6-string. I enjoy playing and sometimes singing along with myself. I think the high level of fluency that occurs when singing is a strange thing. I mean, whats really different between normal speaking and singing? Is this how effortless it is for most people to speak? :P If so, I am jealous.

Great, I took art classes too in high school all the way through. I could never mixed colors right, that is why I stayed away from that. It is good for the soul, if you draw, paint, play music, sing or even dance.

Music is my life !!!! I can't live without music.
I play the piano. I have been playing for 4 years. I mostly play classical music (Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart....etc.) I played many times in concerts before. And I even had my own solo recital last year.
I am studying with a great professional teacher, but she is in a vacation right now :(.
I am so excited about it and I really wish I could be able to make it as a career. (At least it is something you are not required to do much speaking in public and do presentations !!!)
I also sometimes play some rock in a band with my brother. We mostly play Coldplay stuff. I feel it is a bit boring but It is good for a change and for some socializing coz playing classical piano is soooo antisocial.
If anyone here is interested in classical music, I will be glad to exchange some ideas.

I have been playing bass for two years. Before that I played the guitar, so I already knew where the notes were and that kind of things. I know that your avatar is the... "clave de fa" (I donīt know how to say it in English). I play an acoustic bass (I mean one of those hybrids). I like playing bass. Currently, Iīm learning the style of Motownīs bassist James Jamerson. By the way, maybe you already know it, but if you donīt thereīs a very good (and rather inexpensive) program for transcribing records called "Transcribe!". It allows you to raise the tune 1 octave whithout changing the speed, and many other things.

Clave Fa in English it's called a "Bass Cleff".
Thanks for the info on "Transcribe!". I use a Tascam CD-BT1 to manipulate bass lines on CDs. Check it out at http://www.tascam.com/Products/cdbt1mkii.html
Keep on keeping up the low end my friend . . . Stay in the groove!!!
Peace,
Elliott

Thanks for the link.
Undoubtedly the CD-BT1 must be more confortable than having to use a PC. The advantage of the software is, of course, price and a feature that graphically displays wich notes are being played (it is particularly precise with bass notes).
I am not specially good playing the bass, but, when I have time, I like to play along with songs. Fortunately, I have strong fingers, and that helps a lot... technically. Theory is another thing. I am rather lazy practicing scales and stuff like that.
