hello everyone! i just joined and altho im quite tired (it's 1:37 am where im at lol) i thought perhaps i'd pop in and introduce myself!
i'm twenty years old, lost about my life's direction, still live with my family, involved in a long distance relationship with my bestfriend of five years, a lover of cats, an eater of food, a listener of music, a strong believer in happiness, as well as a life-time stutterer! ^_^ i thought that to be a good well rounded description of me.
ive been stuttering since i learned to talk. i was born with an extremely bad ear infection. so bad i was having siezures, temperature of 106, and i could not hear. my mother had taken me to many many doctors over a time span of 2 1/2 years to make me better, cool me off, and ease any pain. the problem was, altho they were trying to help my fevers and siezures they thought it was too late to help my hearing and that i would be deaf (argh). finally one guy said "why did you wait so long??" and put me into surgery. turned out all i needed was tubes in my ears, but they were worried that my condition had gone so long without proper treatment it might in fact be too late to save my hearing. luckily, this was not the case and i have rather good hearing to this day. at two and a half i finally could hear and learn to talk, and ever since ive been a stutterer. a direct result? im not sure, but i did read once that damage to the auditory nerve they think is a possible cause of stuttering... and mayhaps my auditory nerve was indeed damaged?
all this time that i could not hear i was instead learning to read lips and facial expressions. LOL to this day "i cannot hear without my glasses" ;-P.
on an added little tid-bit of who i am (tho not necessarily related to stuttering), in highschool i started learning ASL (american sign language) as foreign language credits and took to it rather well (i think because its so visual a language and i dont have to worry about stuttering ^_^). im hoping to continue learning ASL and somehow using this as something of a career... as what? im still not sure >_<...
oki, yes... i tend to ramble when im sleepy. either that or just not finish my sentences at ZZZZzzZZZzzz.....
;-D
i hope this did not bore you and im looking forward to meeting you all and chatting with you!
be well and happy!

Hi,
There's a really good stuttering manual from an American guy available on www.iconqueredmystutter.com if anyone's interested.
