Are any of you watching the second season of Flavor of Love? Who do you think is going to win this time? My guess it is either Beautuful or Buckeey. They are my favorite girls there :D
Here's a link of the entire girls if you don't know them by name yet:

Hhhhmmmm . . . So . . . Someone actually watches that show . . . I'm flabbergasted
That rates down there with Jerry Springer, ElimiDate, and Who Want to be a Super Hero (just to mention three of the many)!!!
I can see the TV viewers' IQ decreasing, and decreasing, and decreasing, and decreasing!!!!

Wow, after reading your comment I feel somewhat offended (don't know if that is your intention though). Is Flavor of Love making me dumber you say? I just watch the show for entertainment purposes. I don' go out thinking I should disrespect, belittle, or demean women or something.
Have any suggestions an African American like me should watch? Reruns of Friends, Big Brother, etc.?
I just don't want to lose my intelligence like you said :D

Now, now Crimson . . . Don’t take this personal, I did state “TV viewers”. And please, don’t make it racial as you emphasize that you are “African-American”. I am a minority as well. Very few here know that I am Puerto Rican and am ESL (English as Second Language).
Now with that said. I do have many suggestions of TV programming that ANY viewer could watch in substitution of fake, undignified, and detrimental reality TV shows. Here is a not-all-inclusive list:
Anything on History Channel
Anything on Discovery Channel
Anything on Animal Planet
Law & Order
Law & Order: SVU
Forensic Files
The Investigators
48 Hours
Dateline NBC
Primetime
Criminal Minds
Fox News Channel
MSNBC
Trauma Life in the ER
20/20
American Justice
Video Justice
Body of Evidence
Without a Trace
Cold Case
I am pretty sure that anyone who watches any of the above programs will have an increase of knowledge that could lead to higher IQ, better critical and logical thinking, and definitely will acquire a better vocabulary both written and verbal.
As I stated before, my intent was not to offend you (or any other viewer who prefers the “other” programming). The bottom line is that I have children and THEY ARE the future leaders of this world . . . I do not want the future being decided by followers of Flava or Springer!!!
Peace,
Elliott

That depends who you ask. I will try to keep it light: It's a show of a washed out rapper who, among a few . . . well . . . "ladies" (if you want to call them that way), is looking to chose one for who-knows-what. In the process they use extreme profanity, demean women, and speak a mixture of "street & slang" language that is only understood by those whom speak the same, er . . . language?
In sum, it adds absolutely no value to TV, society as a whole, and parenting.
Now, that explanation . . . of course . . . is expressing my opinion of the show in a very lightly manner.
Peace,
Elliott

So, let me get this right.....
It's about a has-been rapper who picks out a female from a group of females who all act in an unladylike manner.
That pretty close to it?

Are any of these "reality contest" programmes worth watching?
I watched a programme this weekend called "How do you solve a problem like Maria?", (http://www.bbc.co.uk/maria/) kinda like a musical (no pun intended!) version of pop idol.
On one hand, I - like most guys watching a group of women - was trying to work out who was most attractive. And I did appreciate their singing ability.
On the other hand, I was thinking to myself "Have I really become so sad as to watch a programme like this on a Saturday night?"
Just made me realise how easy it is to become sucked into the modern cheap programme making that is "reality tv".

I haven't even heard of the show. I'm a pretty much an sci-fi person, UFO's and paranormal kind of stuff kind of guy. The wife loves the Survivor Series, they have every year. I"m an minority too, Native American.

Well, thanks for your honesty AGOFCR. For a second, I felt like you were calling me dumb for watching the program. No offense taken at all.
I perfectly understand you have children and don't want them to grow up adding to the problem.
Anyway, now that my confusion on the whole subject is over, what do you really think is happening with television these days?

It does seem as though very few programs are worth watching nowadays. The TV producers are thrill seekers out for shock-value. TV both in America and around the world seems to have "discovered" that so-called "reality" shows are very profitable, resulting in a growing string of such shows in recent years. That does not mean, however, that they are good for society or that they should be aired? These reality TV shows wouldn't be made if people didn't watch them, so why do viewers watch them? Either they find them entertaining or they find them so shocking that they are simply unable to turn the TV off or change the channel.
What we are looking at here is an extension of Schadenfreude, a German word used to describes people's delight and entertainment at the failings and problems of others. If you laugh at someone slipping on the ice, that's Schadenfreude. If you take pleasure in the downfall of a company you dislike, that is also Schadenfreude. So what causes us to derive entertainment from the suffering of others?
Certainly there may be catharsis involved, but that is also achieved through fiction. Perhaps we are simply happy that these things aren't happening to us, but that seems more reasonable when we see something accidental and spontaneous rather than something deliberately staged for our amusement.
That people do suffer on some reality TV shows is beyond question. There is never any attempt to justify these shows as enriching or worthwhile in any way, though certainly not every program needs to be educational or highbrow. Nevertheless, it does raise the question as to why they are made.
What of the responsibility of the reality TV advertisers? Their funding makes such programming possible. An ethical position would be to refuse to underwrite any programming, no matter how popular, if it is designed to deliberately cause others humiliation, embarrassment, or suffering. It's immoral to do such things for fun (especially on a regular basis), so it's certainly immoral to do it for money or to pay to have it done.
Well, let me get off my soap box.
Peace,
Elliott
