I'm a 16 year old stutterer and I've been stuttering for about 8-10 years now...I can't seem to recall exactly when my stuttering got noticable. Anyways, my stuttering slowly evolved into Blocking, which makes it sometimes impossible to even start speaking. I read that Blocking forms when a normal stutterer tries to avoid stuttering, and ends up not being able to speak sometimes at all. Well, I sure tired to avoid it, being the shy kid i was/am. So now I'm stuck with a rather bad case of blocking. It doesn't happen all the time, and happens much less when I'm talking with friends, but when it does happen I feel like a fool standing there not being able to respond to the simple question, "What's your last name?" This happened twice today and it really makes me embarassed :(

I hope I can eventually conquer this annyoance... :)

I remember when I was around 15-16, I had a really bad problem when someone would ask me my name, especially my last name.

I've seemed to get over this somehow, I rarely do it anymore.

Maybe that will make you feel a little better, I don't know. :)

Hello, it seems we are in the same boat. I am 16 also, and I usually block now from trying to avoid the stutter. My blocks don't happen too often when I'm talking to one of my best friend's on a one on one situation, but are fairly often when I'm around several people.
